U.S. Rep. Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) delivered a keynote address at a deployment ceremony held at Wayne County High School in Monticello, Kentucky. The ceremony honored 79 soldiers from the 1-623rd Field Artillery (FA) who are deploying to Southwest Asia this holiday season. The deployment is part of the U.S. Army Central Command's Operation Spartan Shield, which aims to maintain and strengthen partnerships with regional allies.
During his speech, Congressman Rogers, who is also a veteran of the Kentucky National Guard's 623rd, expressed his pride in seeing the next generation of warfighters and defenders stepping up to serve their country. He emphasized the soldiers' invaluable support during recent natural disasters in Kentucky and highlighted their extensive training and expertise.
"These soldiers are not only highly trained to be a part of Task Force Spartan, but they are equipped with the most high-tech artillery and intelligence that this nation can provide," Congressman Rogers said. "What better soldiers to guard our assets around the globe, to protect freedom and liberty for our nation and our friends abroad, than the brave members of the Kentucky National Guard?"
Task Force Spartan, a unique and multi-component organization, consists of active Army, National Guard, and U.S. Army Reserve units. Since 2011, Operation Spartan Shield has maintained a U.S. military presence in Southwest Asia, engaging in various military activities to promote regional security and stability.
Congressman Rogers expressed his gratitude to the soldiers and their families for their sacrifices throughout the year, particularly during the holiday season.
"I salute our Kentucky soldiers and their families for sacrificing so much for our nation," Congressman Rogers said.
