SOMERSET, KY (April 23, 2024) – U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) recently participated in the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce's Eggs and Issues breakfast series, where he provided a congressional update and discussed ongoing work in Kentucky.

During the event, Congressman Rogers highlighted the progress on the planned Northern Bypass in Somerset, mentioning the positive impact of recent infrastructure developments. He stated, "The new interchange at highway 461 & highway 80 has nearly eliminated all traffic accidents in that area, and it has streamlined the flow of traffic at the Valley Oak Technology Complex, paving the way for new development opportunities."

Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Congressman Rogers emphasized, "It signals to the rest of the state that we’re ready for more business and new opportunities in the Lake Cumberland region."

Furthermore, he commended the University Center of Southern Kentucky for expanding educational opportunities by offering bachelor's degrees from various public universities on the campus of Somerset Community College. Rogers noted, "Students can now earn a bachelor’s degree in several programs right here in Somerset."

Addressing the importance of retaining local talent, Congressman Rogers stated, "It has been a long-time dream of mine to stop exporting our best and brightest students out of southern and eastern Kentucky, and these affordable college opportunities will bring that to fruition."

Additionally, Rogers acknowledged the significant contributions of the region to national defense, highlighting advancements in drone technology, communication systems, and high-tech camouflage. He emphasized, "We are doing incredible work in our region to support our national defense with competitive ingenuity, and the best workforce in the country."

The event also provided an opportunity for Congressman Rogers to discuss recent legislative activities in Washington, including his support for security supplemental foreign aid bills and his role as Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science.

Reflecting on his recent engagements in Washington, Rogers mentioned, "Last week was the busiest time I’ve ever had in Washington," and highlighted the importance of oversight of taxpayer dollars and policy evaluations.
