U.S. Representative Hal Rogers is inviting middle and high school students in Southern and Eastern Kentucky to participate in the 2025 Congressional Art Competition. Students from the Fifth Congressional District will have a chance to have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Each congressional district sends a winning artist to Washington, DC, for the Winner's Celebration in June 2025, with Southwest Airlines providing two free airline tickets to winners from Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District.
"The Congressional Art Competition gives our talented student artists the opportunity to be featured on a national platform," stated Congressman Rogers, emphasizing the pride he feels when he sees Eastern Kentucky artwork on Capitol Hill. Students need to submit a photo of their work and a student release form to rogers.press@mail.house.gov by April 30, 2025. The accepted art forms include various two-dimensional mediums, which must not exceed specific dimensions and weight and must be framed accordingly by the artist.
Eligible participants are students attending schools in the 33 counties comprising Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District. For inquiries, the Somerset office and the provided email are available for contact. Last year, Lydia Engle of Corbin High School won with a portrait of her favorite teacher.
The Congressional Art Competition, backed by the Congressional Institute, was started by Congress in 1982 to highlight and celebrate young artistic talent. Over 10,000 student artworks have been showcased in the Capitol since its inception.
