WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Rep. Hal Rogers (KY-05) has extended an invitation to high school artists in Southern and Eastern Kentucky to participate in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition. The competition aims to select artwork to represent Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District at the U.S. Capitol Building.
"This competition gives our talented student artists from the mountains the opportunity to be featured in the nation's Capitol," expressed Congressman Rogers, Dean of the House. "When artwork is on display from every state, you can see that our students have competitive talent. As I walk through the Capitol, It gives me great pride to see a piece of Eastern Kentucky along the way."
Students interested in participating are required to submit a photo of their original artwork along with the necessary student release form via email to rogers.press@mail.house.gov. Acceptable mediums for submission include paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art, and photographs. The artwork dimensions should not exceed 26" x 26" x 4" and must not weigh more than 15 pounds. The winning piece will need to be framed by the artist within the specified dimensions before being showcased in the U.S. Capitol Building.
High school students from the following 33 counties within Kentucky's Fifth Congressional District are eligible to enter the competition: Bath, Bell, Boyd, Breathitt, Carter, Clay, Elliott, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, Magoffin, Martin, McCreary, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Pike, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Rowan, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe counties.
The winning artist from Southern and Eastern Kentucky will be awarded two free airline tickets from Southwest Airlines to travel to Washington, DC for a national reception alongside other talented artists.
The Congressional Art Competition, sponsored by the Congressional Institute, was established by Congress in 1982 with the aim of encouraging and acknowledging the artistic abilities of young individuals residing in congressional districts. Over the past 30 years, more than 650,000 students have taken part in this esteemed competition.
