Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center held the title of the largest nursing home in Whitley County in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 125 beds—18 above the county average for the period—and cared for an average of 99.6 residents during those months.

CMS awarded Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center an overall rating of 4 out of 5, exceeding Kentucky’s statewide nursing home average rating of 3.

Among other facilities, Hillcrest Health and Rehabilitation Center ranked as the second largest in Whitley County with 120 available beds, while Christian Health Center Corbin followed with 104 beds.

No incidents of fines or penalties were reported at Williamsburg Health and Rehabilitation Center for the first quarter of 2026.

There were four for-profit nursing homes operating in Whitley County, Kentucky, during this period.

Estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau indicate continued growth in the older adult population, while the number of younger Americans declines. Between 2020 and 2024, the 65-and-older population chapter rose by 13%, as those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The country’s older population expanded rapidly over the past 100 years, going from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

Research from 2021 estimates that close to half—about 28 million—of this group may require long-term services and supports, and more than one third could ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
