U.S. Representative Harold "Hal" Rogers of Kentucky has cast his vote in favor of the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, aiming to maintain federal funding levels and prevent a government shutdown set for March 14, 2025.
The bill includes provisions to sustain military funding, offering the largest pay raise for junior enlisted personnel in over four decades. It also allocates additional resources to the Toxic Exposure Fund for veterans' healthcare needs, countering claims that the fund had been depleted.
Key social programs remain unaffected by this legislation, with no changes made to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. The bill ensures continued payments through the fiscal year and designates $425 million for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program targeting low-income seniors and $7.6 billion for WIC.
Congressman Rogers expressed his support through a statement: "Congress has a constitutional duty to responsibly fund the government, and that’s what we plan to do with this continuing resolution."
He added that the resolution provides a "clean, long-term plan" that freezes federal spending levels while allowing Congress more time to collaborate with the Trump Administration on border security and reducing government expenditure.
Rogers emphasized protection for active military members and veterans' healthcare services while safeguarding Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid from potential disruptions due to a shutdown. He stated: "The bill fully funds government operations and addresses critical needs like air traffic control, nutrition assistance, and vital investments for our national defense."
Expressing satisfaction with supporting the measure, Rogers said: "I’m happy to support the Continuing Resolution to keep our government running while we focus on implementing President Trump’s America First Agenda."
The House passed the legislation on Tuesday with a narrow margin of 218-212 votes. The bill now proceeds to the Senate ahead of Friday's midnight deadline.
