How many students were enrolled in Harlan County School District in 2022-23 school year?

Harlan County School District had the highest enrollment among Harlan County districts, welcoming 3,764 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 50.3% of them were girls, and 49.7% were boys.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 94.8% of the total enrollment.

Harlan County School District roughly covers schools within Harlan County with its main office in Harlan.

Among the two districts in Harlan County, Harlan Independent School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 904 students.

In the previous school year, Harlan County School District had the highest number of students among Harlan County districts.

Despite escaping some of the pandemic's educational disruptions, Kentucky's achievement gaps have remained an issue since 2019. In the eighth-grade reading assessments, for example, Hispanic students scored eight points lower than their white peers, and the gap reached 15 points in math. Black students fared even worse, falling more than 20 points behind and facing a failure rate nearly double that of their white counterparts.
