Perry County School District had the highest enrollment among Perry County districts, welcoming 3,868 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the Kentucky Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 53.4% of them were boys, and 46.6% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 95.7% of the total enrollment.

Perry County School District roughly covers schools within Perry County with its main office in Hazard.

Among the two districts in Perry County, Hazard Independent School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,115 students.

In the previous school year, Perry County School District had the highest number of students among Perry County districts.

Despite escaping some of the pandemic's educational disruptions, Kentucky's achievement gaps have remained an issue since 2019. In the eighth-grade reading assessments, for example, Hispanic students scored eight points lower than their white peers, and the gap reached 15 points in math. Black students fared even worse, falling more than 20 points behind and facing a failure rate nearly double that of their white counterparts.
