U.S. Rep. Harold “Hal” Rogers released a statement as the U.S. House of Representatives works to secure U.S. elections and avoid a government shutdown at the end of the fiscal year on September 30, 2024.
“With the Presidential election only a few weeks away, we cannot afford a government shutdown or bypass a commonsense opportunity to safeguard our elections for the American people, by ensuring that only American citizens may vote in November. The first vote may have failed, but we must power through for the future of our country,” said Rogers.
On Wednesday evening, Congressman Rogers voted for the Continuing Resolution and Other Matters Act of 2025, a stop-gap funding bill aimed at preventing a government shutdown at the end of September. The measure extends federal funding through March 28, 2025 and includes the SAVE Act, which requires states to obtain proof of citizenship when registering to vote and mandates the removal of non-citizens from existing voter rolls. Although the House did not pass the legislation, efforts will continue to reach a resolution before next week's deadline.
