Turner twofer: Union guard makes top-100 list for second straight year
Union guard Markelle Turner has been named to the Bevo Francis Top-100 Watch List for the second season in a row.
The list, which is compiled by the Small College Basketball and the National Awards Committee, picks 100 players from a list of roughly 15,000 athletes at the small college level.
The organization says consideration is given to players based on "season statistics and individual achievements, awards, personal character and team achievements."
The list for the award will be dwindled down to 50 on Feb. 15, then move down to 25 a month later.
Finalists will be announced April 1 with the Bevo Francis Award winner being officially selected on April 3.
Turner, a standout guard from Barbourville, was also selected to the top-100 list last season.
Already a two-time Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year, he's adding to his impressive resume this season.
Turner is second in the AAC in scoring at 21.0 points per game, while also averaging a team-best 3.2 assists on a Bulldog squad currently ranked No. 9 in the country and holding a 14-0 record in league play.
